A sneaker sale gone awry has resulted in the arrest of the alleged perpetrator.
Anthony Zangrilli made arrangements with a seller through Instagram to meet to purchase sneakers.
According to the Collier County (FL) Sheriff’s Office, the 19-year-old Zangrilli agreed to meet the victim in the parking lot of a LowBrow Pizza located at 3148 Tamiami Trial East. Zangrilli was accompanied by an as of yet, unidentified male.
After the seller showed Zangrilli the sneakers, Zangrilli pulled out a gun , aiming at the victim’s head and demanding the sneakers. The unknown accomplice also, lifted his shirt brandishing a firearm of his own. He then told the victim that he would pistol-whip him in front of his girlfriend, who was seated in the victim’s vehicle.
Soon after an individual , matching Zangrilli’s description was attempting to sell similar shoes to those that were stolen.
Surveillance footage showed an individual, who strongly resembled Zangrilli, who is on probation. Zangrilli was also identified in a photo lineup by the victim.
His probation officer, Sabrina Rimert, went to do a welfare check at the Glades Motel, where he was staying. The pilfered kicks were in plain view from the door, as they were sitting at the foot of the bed. A more comprehensive search of the premises, unveiled a bag under the bed that contained two firearms- a Springfield XD 40 calibre and a Canik 9mm handgun.
Zangrilli was taken into custody and charged with robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and felony violation of a probation-community control and taken to the Naples Jail Center.
